photo journal of our christmas vacation

Merry belated Christmas everyone!  There's so much to tell about our recent adventures that I thought pictures would tell it best.
first up was the wedding of my good friend Amanda!  isn't she a beautiful bride??
gingerbread houses as per Nelson family tradition- complete with made-from-scratch houses and candies + anything-in-the-pantry goes for decorations (check out our snowman with peppercorn buttons and a marshmallow top-hat!)

about half-way through opening presents on Christmas morning, mother nature decided it was time to give her gift: a real white Christmas!
we had a blast shooting hoops and playing volleyball with the Nelson fam a few days after Christmas... despite the fact that my little sister's serve puts mine to shame.  it was so great to spend literally hours playing games, watching movies, and just being with that awesome family of mine... we're definitely going to miss Braden while he's down at BYU and Cameron when he leaves for PERU in just a few short weeks!
Joe finally revealed his long-kept secret anniversary trip only once we hit the road for... Leavenworth!  I had never been, so I was pretty excited to spend a couple days exploring this little Bavarian-themed mountain town.
our cute little bed and breakfast!  it was a new experience for us, having never stayed at one before.  we couldn't help but feel like we were crashing in a stranger's house... but we sure loved the fancy home-cooked breakfasts, "homey" feel, and of course, the fireplace!
the gorgeous view of the river from our window at the B&B
luckily the christmas lights were still up during new years' at the shops in leavenworth
german-style village
an upside-down christmas tree at Kris Kringle, where its christmas all year round
we caught a glimpse of this HUMONGOUS knight next to a hotel downtown and just had to have a picture.
experiencing Bratworst and Kielbasa.  the verdict was... delicious!!!  possibly even worth the outdoor restaurant in sub 20 degree weather..possibly.
another first... snowshoeing!  and we are DEFINITELY fans.  we hiked through the mountains and it was absolutely beautiful!!!
a river along our snowshoeing journey
pictures just don't really do it justice... they never do.

cold but so happy and so, so in love!
And there ya have it, folks.  Hope your holidays were as wonderful as ours and that you're having an easier time going back to a regular schedule than I am ( :  We had so much fun and enjoyed spending time with family and relaxing so much, but in the end we're glad to be back home.

There's just no place like home.

love, the hills
